JODY Banim says Warrington Rylands showed “another side of themselves” in beating Morpeth Town on Saturday afternoon.
First-half goals from Jordan Mustoe and Callum Dolan ensured a 2-0 victory at Gorsey Lane, making it seven points from their past three games.
Mustoe – a first-half substitute for the injured Dylan Vassallo – opened the scoring just four minutes after coming off the bench before Dolan netted from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.
“I thought we were very good in the first half,” caretaker manager Banim said.
“They had a little spell midway through it but other than that, we should have been three or four goals to the good.
“We spoke at half time about keeping it solid and not allowing them back into the game.
“They caused us some problems in the second half but on the break, we should go and score a couple more.
“We showed another side to us today in that we dogged it out. We showed a resilience and a fight.”
Blues, unchanged from the previous week's 2-2 draw at FC United, started on the front foot and nearly took the lead in the sixth minute when captain Dean Furman was played in by a chipped through ball, only to slice his effort wide of the target.
Rylands went closer on 12 minutes when AJ Leitch-Smith struck the far post, with the effort rebounding to Furman but he couldn't get the ball out of his feet quickly enough and the ball was smothered to safety.
Mustoe opened the scoring in the 37th minute. A fantastic shot by Furman smashed against the bar and when the ball fell to Mustoe he showed excellent composure and a clinical finish to smash the ball into the near post.
Blues doubled their lead when Dolan scored from the spot after he had been fouled following great footwork inside the Morpeth area.
Morpeth hit the post with a free-kick with 10 minutes to go, but this was as close as they got to finding a way past Joel Torrance in the Rylands goal.
Blues could have extended their lead but substitute Kelly N’Mai was denied by a smart Dan Lowson save.
