AHEAD of today’s mammoth clash between two Pacific giants of rugby league, it is clear whose side Tom Mikaele is on.

The big Warrington Wolves prop will be at his home ground today cheering on Samoa as they face Tonga in a highly-anticipated Rugby League World Cup quarter final.

Mikaele, who is preparing for his first full season as a Wire player having joined from Wests Tigers midway through last season, is proud of his Samoan heritage and is keen to see his countrymen get the job done this afternoon.

Either way, though, he is urging anybody undecided about heading to see it live to get themselves to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“I’ve been telling everyone I see that they need to get to this game,” he said.

“If both teams come ready and prepared like I think they will, it will probably be the game of the tournament.

“It’s going to be a real good clash, hopefully it’s close and that all the fans here are keen to see two passionate nations go hard.

“I’m ready to see it and hopefully Samoa can get over them and get it done.

“Obviously the start wasn’t great for them – I’m not sure how they were physically and mentally but I know a few of the boys had only flown into camp a few days before the England game.

“They’ve shown some good performances together in the past two weeks and hopefully they can put another one in against a good side in Tonga.”
