THE Cheshire Senior Cup has often been a competition in which Warrington Town have utilised younger players trying to make their way in the game.

The club’s partnership with the Robbie Fowler Education and Football Academy, where manager Mark Beesley is Head of Performance, has allowed them access to some of the academy’s players when needed.

As such, the teams Yellows have fielded in the county cup matches have been heavily laden with FEFA players.

While there may be “one or two” of those players involved in tonight’s first-round tie at Stalybridge Celtic, however, Beesley insists his frontline first-team players will also be involved as they look to secure a fourth straight victory.

“We need to keep momentum, whatever game comes next,” he said following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Matlock Town.

“We’ve got a good squad – we have 16 fit players so they will all be involved.

“There may be one or two youngsters but the rest of the players will all be involved.”

One player who will not be involved is forward Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, who has been on the sidelines of late having suffered from appendicitis.

He took a brief part in the warm-up on Saturday and Beesley says he will continue to build towards a potential return for Town’s next Northern Premier League fixture – the trip to Guiseley on November 5.

“It’s a funny one with Isaac and his appendicitis – once he’s pain-free, he’s ready,” he said.

“It’s not a typical rehab injury where he has to work on stuff.

“We’re just taking our time with him – he’ll do a bit more on Tuesday and we’ll possibly look at getting him involved in training on Thursday.

“I think he’ll be back for the next league game.”

While Buckley-Ricketts is nearing a return, the same cannot be said of fellow frontman Mikey Howard, whose season has been brought to a premature end.

The 22-year-old – a new signing from Skelmersdale United in the summer – suffered a knee injury in training which was confirmed to be a campaign-ending ACL.

“It’s a tragedy – you never want to hear of anyone getting that kind of injury no matter what club they’re at,” Beesley said of Howard.

“The lad is shattered but the players are rallying round him. We’re doing things for him and I’m sure everybody wants to wish him well.

“He’ll bounce back – he’s only young at 22 so he’ll be back.”
