A DOMINANT second-half showing allowed Lymm to move up to second in the Regional 1 North West table on Saturday.

Adam Fletcher’s side scored 31 points after half time to bring home maximum points from their trip to Kendal as skipper Nathan Beesley scored twice while Ben Simpson and Paddy Jennings also touched down to secure a 50-19 victory.

The hosts’ only points of the second half came by way of a converted try while Lymm were down to 14 men following Cormac Nolan’s sin-binning, but the full-back returned to kick the final two conversions to take his tally for the afternoon to 25 points.

Nolan touched down twice in the first half to go with a further try from Rob Makin.

They now have six wins from seven league games – the same record as leaders Blackburn whom they trail by virtue of having picked up two fewer bonus points – ahead of bottom side Kirkby Lonsdale’s visit to Beechwood on Saturday.

“I’m really pleased to come away from Cumbria with the five points,” director of rugby Fletcher said.

“I thought we were a little inaccurate and, at times, too adventurous in the first half. We had a chat about this at half time and cutting out the 50-50 pass.

“In the second half, we controlled the ball and territory a lot better.”

Lymm’s seconds were edged out 19-17 by Sedgeley Park but the thirds were 29-24 victors over Liverpool University Veterinarians thanks to two tries from Max Ure and one each for Kieran Williams, Olly Brown and Craig Capewell.

Meanwhile, anyone who took in Warrington’s clash with West Park at Stockton Lane on Saturday was certainly entertained.

Between them, the sides scored 10 tries to illuminate a thrilling contest and it was the hosts who edged to a victory that moved them joint-top of the table.

The 43-31 triumph was Warrington’s fifth in a row and they are now level on points with Didsbury Toc H and Liverpool St Helens at the Counties 1 Lancashire and Cheshire summit, sitting third on points difference.

They trailed for much of the contest, with the visitors opening up an early 14-0 lead but tries from Jack Rigby, Matt Beeley, Christian White and George Percival meant they went into the half-time break with a 28-24 lead and a four-try bonus point in the bag.

West retook the lead shortly after half-time, but that was to be their final score as Warrington overhauled them thanks to tries from Nathan Bass and Kieran Hughes plus a penalty from JP Hudson, who converted five of the hosts’ six tries.

Coach John Callander commented: “While I am obviously happy with the win and our position in the table, our game management needs to improve as we are making things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves when we don’t clear our lines.”

Warrington are at home again on Saturday as they host Sefton.
