BOOSTED by several returnees, Warrington RUFC continued their superb recent form at Southport on Saturday.

Stuart Beeley’s side ran out 32-17 winners to make it four victories in succession, and five out of six in Counties 1 Lancashire and Cheshire in total.

Ahead of Saturday’s hosting of West Park, the Stockton Lane outfit sit third in the table, level on points with second-placed Didsbury Toc H and one behind leaders Liverpool St Helens.

All three sides have an identical record, with LSH top by virtue of having picked up one more bonus point.

The contributions of centre JP Hudson proved pivotal for Warrington on Saturday as he touched down for two tries as well as kicking three conversions and two penalties for a 22-point personal haul.

Josh Riley and Kieran Hughes also crossed the whitewash as the visitors left the Lancashire coast with maximum points.

Warrington were able to welcome back the likes of centre Hughes, hooker Christian White and fly-half Matt Beeley from injury while prop Dafydd Floyd was also back in the front row after a spell away from the game.

They conceded the first try but from the moment Hudson dummied through the home defence to touch down between the posts and add the conversion, they never trailed.

Hudson then kicked two penalties either side of Riley’s try – scored following a lovely Tom Wood short ball – to give Warrington a 15-point lead with half-time approaching.

However, that advantage was trimmed to just three points as Southport touched down for a brace of tries – one of which was converted – either side of the interval.

Warrington were able to settle things down, though, and a scrum move saw the ball reach Hughes, who broke through and dummied the cover defence to touch down.

Hudson added the conversion before securing the four-try bonus point with five minutes remaining by spotting a gap in the home defence and piercing through it to touch down.
