WITH the senior teams not in action, Lymm Rugby Club’s junior section had the chance to shine at the weekend.

There was a full programme of both training and matches for the youngsters on Sunday, with the youngest players in the under 5s and under 6s age group honing their skills while all teams from under 7s to under 16s faced off with their counterparts from Crewe and Nantwich.

The under 16s Junior Colts team were impressive 70-0 victors after coping with an early physical onslaught from their visitors at Beechwood.

Even with a few key players unavailable, the hosts managed to raise their game and combined solid defence with excellent game management.

Try scorers: Gibbon (4), Crow (3), Steele, Lavender, Cummings, Leo Butler, Wardle

The under 18s Senior Colts side were also in action as they hosted Kirkby Lonsdale, but they were on the wrong end of the scoreline.

Lymm were missing key personnel and the depleted nature of their squad meant they did not have any substitutes.

That disadvantage eventually told as the visitors ran out 38-12 victors despite Lymm being well in the game at the break.

James Anderson and Jacob Mungai crossed for tries, with the latter also adding a conversion as they trailed by just seven points at the break, but Kirkby Lonsdale took advantage of a tiring Lymm side after the interval.

Squad: Keelan Gillespie, Jamie Sawyer, Ryan Vanden, Christopher Buckeridge, Adam Case, Danny McFerran, Shiv Maharaj, Kurtis Fischer, Oscar Bode-Hey, Charlie Yeomans, Hamish Scott - Herron, Joe McGrath, Jacob Mungai, James Anderson, Will Day

The senior teams are back in action this weekend having had one of their scheduled “break weekends” on Saturday.

The firsts are on home soil as they look to bounce back from defeat to league leaders Blackburn last time out – they welcome Burnage to Beechwood.

The seconds are also at home to their Burnage counterparts while the thirds travel to Wirral.
