WHILE attention now switches towards the Rugby League World Cup, preparations for a new season of Super League will continue to bubble away.
Warrington Wolves will return to pre-season training next month and a number of key dates for the 2023 campaign have already been confirmed.
Here are the key dates we already know for The Wire’s 2023 season…
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3 – SUPER LEAGUE FIXTURES RELEASED
Tomorrow, we will be able to put confirmed dates in our diaries for The Wire’s full 2023 schedule.
As with this year, there will be 27 regular rounds followed by three rounds of play-offs leading into the Grand Final.
The full schedule will be released at 8.30am.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4 – WARRINGTON WOLVES 2023 KIT REVEAL
Following last year’s success, The Wire will reveal their 2023 playing kits to a live audience at the club’s Bonfire Night extravaganza at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Hoover are once again set to be the principal sponsors on the shirts, which will be made again by O’Neills.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 14 – WIRE PLAYERS START PRE-SEASON TRAINING
The squad are set to regather next month to start preparations for the new season.
Half-back George Williams is the only player involved in the Rugby League World Cup and regardless of England’s progress, he is unlikely to be present until a later date.
It is hoped new signings Paul Vaughan, Josh McGuire, Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson will all be present and correct by this date.
FEBRUARY 16 – OPENING GAME OF SUPER LEAGUE SEASON
The new season starts one week later than it did in 2022 as the action resumes 89 days after the Rugby League World Cup final on November 19.
The Wire will kick off the Super League season at home for the first time since 2019 as they host Leeds Rhinos at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The two sides meet on the opening day for the second consecutive season and the fifth time in seven years.
APRIL 6-10 – SUPER LEAGUE “RIVALS ROUND”
A number of Super League’s derby fixtures, such as Wigan vs St Helens and Hull FC vs Hull KR, are set to take place across the Easter weekend.
However, there will be no Easter double header this year with each team only playing once across the holiday period.
The Wire have been confirmed as travelling to Catalans Dragons on Saturday, April 8, kick off 5pm UK time.
JUNE 3-4 - MAGIC WEEKEND
St James' Park will host Super League's annual summer extravaganza for the seventh time.
The game will decamp to the north east on the first weekend in June and Wire will feature in the last of the six games.
They will take on Hull FC on Sunday, June 4, kick off 5pm.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 12 – CHALLENGE CUP FINAL
The Challenge Cup Final returns to an August date having been held in May and July for the past two seasons.
It also returns to its traditional home of Wembley Stadium having been moved to Tottenham this year, while 2023 will also see the Women’s Challenge Cup Final take place at Wembley on the same day as the men’s showpiece.
The 1895 Cup Final and the Year 7 Champion Schools Final will also form part of the occasion.
SEPTEMBER 21-24 – FINAL REGULAR ROUND OF SEASON
This year, the Grand Final fell on this weekend as the showpiece was brought forward to leave more time for World Cup preparations.
Three weeks of play-off games will then follow culminating in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 14.
SUPER LEAGUE PLAY-OFF DATES
Eliminators: September 29-30
Semi-finals: October 6-7
Grand Final: Saturday, October 14
