WHEN Warrington Wolves started their journey in the women’s game back in 2019, Dani Bound was in the thick of it all.
Having represented England at the 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cups, she had already carved out a successful career at the top level of the game.
However, she decided to be part of her hometown club’s journey and since then, the Longford-born dummy-half has not looked back.
Now, that journey has reached a new high following promotion to Betfred Women’s Super League Group One.
Following a perfect regular season, a player-of-the-match display from Bound in which she touched down for two tries helped The Wire beat Featherstone Rovers 34-6 in the BWSL Shield final.
In 2023, they will mix it with the likes of York City Knights, Leeds Rhinos and St Helens at the top of the sport.
“I’m absolutely over the moon – the girls did a tremendous job,” she told the Guardian.
“We knew it was going to be tough from minute one but we dug in. All the girls worked hard for each other and I couldn’t ask for any more from them.
“We’ve always aimed high and we always say to each other to leave nothing out there on the pitch.
“We did that today – the scoreline doesn’t really reflect the game because it was really tough physically, but the girls really put it in and gave as good as they got. I’m so proud of them.
“We’ve gelled very, very well. We’ve had girls come in from places like Huddersfield and other clubs but we’re all one unit – we couldn’t ask for a better group.
“I love this team and I love this town. We’ve got a job to do next year but I’m going nowhere.”
