KICKBOXER Paige Farrington lost on points in her IKF European amateur featherweight title challenge in Darlington on Saturday.
Current British and Commonwealth champion Farrington, representing her country as part of an England team that faced a strong Turkish team at the Cockerton Club, lost to heavier opponent Aysegul Phevlin in a strong and entertaining bout.
Only a few kicks separated the two and Farrington's Warrington Kickboxing Studio coaches will be pressing for a rematch after Phevlin used spoiling tactics throughout the contest.
Warrington had seven other winners during the event, with Chris Allen beating Don Walker from Newcastle, Daryl Ellis defeating Mick Shoulder from Bishop Auckland, Aaeron Potter triumphing against Jim Magner from Leigh, Joe Holman coming out on top against John Wilson from Bishop Auckland, Jon Emanu defeating Michael Dalglish from Newcastle, Rob Lightburn succeeding against Nathan Quarry from Bishop Auckland and Jay Furmedge taking the scalp of Paul Bainbridge from Bishop Auckland.
* Former Warrington Kickboxing Studio fighter Michelle Preston has been crowned a world champion.
She defeated Scotland's Hilary Mack to claim the IKF featherweight title at Wythenshaw Forum.
Preston, who turned professional with the Bridge Foot-based Studio, emigrated to New Zealand three years ago and has now amassed nine titles.
