A NUMBER of Warrington Rowing Club competitiors will be racing in major events on the River Thames in the next few days.
Liv Oakes - the Great Britain junior international who recently progressed through the latest round of trials for this year's junior squad - will be joined by Kate McQuillian and Jenni Pearson in an eight-woman crew for the Head of the River in London on Saturday.
Fellow Lymm High School pupil Steph Wilson will also be in the crew along with three of her clubmates from Salford's Agecroft Rowing Club and one from John O'Gaunt Rowing Club in Lancaster, with the event attracting 300 crews from across the country.
Warrington's junior 18 quadruple sculls crew of James Whitehead, Tom Pearson, Chris Johnstone and Mike Pownall will compete in the National Junior Sculling Head in Henley on Monday, with the junior 16 crew of Josh Goswell, Mathew Spence, Phil Lyons and Sam Edwards also participating.
Both crews were victorious at Saturday's Runcorn Spring Eights Head on the River Weaver, with the junior 18 quartet recording the fastest quadruple sculls time of the day.
Alison Bailey, Emily Clarke, Lotty Cooper and Liv Clubley were victorious in the girls' junior 16 quadruple sculls race, while Andrea Harrison, Sian Henrys, Kelly Blackwell, Zoe Butcher, Jenni Pearson, Kate McQuillian, Gael Tavernier, Charlotte Barron and cox Helen Newns were second in the women's senior four eight event.
Adam Lumley, Dave Holder, Jonathan Budd, John Goode, Gary Hughes, Andrew Devereau, Andy McLeish, Carl Nutbrown and cox Liz Newton finished fourth in the men's senior three eight, while Oli Brierley, Rory O'Connor, Tom Leather, Edward Sims and cox Andrew Mair were sixth in the boys' junior 15 quadruple sculls.
A number of Warrington rowers will be bidding to represent the north west in the junior 14 to junior 16 age range when they compete in trials for the junior inter-regional competition in Northwich on Saturday.
