A TEAM of swimmers from Warriors of Warrington gained wins in the first round of this year's Bolton and District Mini League at St Helens.
Against teams from St Helens and Worlsey, the nine-year-old girls relay team of Catherine Ross, Rachel Howard, Sharna Hughes and Hannah Murphy as well as the boys team of Jacon Wass, Aaron Hill, Oliver Houghton and Sam Cooper were winners in freestyle and medley relays.
Individual winners in the freestyle races were David Richardson for the 10-year-olds, Josh Regan in the 11-year-old category, while Hannah Wallis was the winner of both the 11 and 12-year-old races.
Warriors recorded victories in the breaststroke events with Rachel Heesom, Katherine Callaghan, Andrew Mclay, who also won the 11-year-old boys butterfly, Ashleigh Wrench and Adam Ravenscroft comfortable winners of their events.
Further success followed in the backstroke with wins from Toni Porrino, Sally Jenkinson, Tim Mainwaring, Kieran Hughes and Michael Ross, with Aimee Harvey, Leah Evans and Scott Ozsanalav Harris also finishing first.
Brendan Spencer won the 12-year-old boys butterfly by the narrowest of margins in the most exciting race of the day.
With creditable second-place finishes achieved by Matthew Bellamy, Abbie Greenwood, Bethany Young and Alex Maund, Warriors finished as comfortable overall winners with round two scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, at Worsley.
