WARRINGTON rugby league legend Mike Gregory will be honoured every time a Super League match is screened live this season.
Sky Sports' man of the match award in each game will be a tribute to Mike Gregory, who died last November, aged 43, after a debilitating illness believed to have been brought on by an insect bite.
Each man of the match award will include a £100 donation to the Rugby League's Benevolent Fund and a further £100 to be donated to the charity of the player's choice.
The winning player will also be given a bottle of champagne.
The award is in association with Super League's title sponsor engage Mutual.
Sky Sports presenter and commentator Eddie Hemmings, who lives in Warrington and is a former Warrington Guardian journalist, said: "Mike Gregory was a great player and an inspirational leader - a legend of our game.
"It is right that the man of the match award this season should be a tribute to him and as part of it we can support the Rugby Football League's benevolent fund and other charities chosen by the winning players."
The first time the award will be presented will be for the St Helens versus Warrington Wolves match at Knowsley Road on Friday.
Gregory spent 12 seasons as a player with Warrington and was an assistant coach to Shaun McRae at St Helens.
