STEVE Price says tonight’s win over Castleford Tigers showed how much his Warrington Wolves squad care about the club.

The Wire ended Castleford’s unbeaten start to the 2019 campaign with a 24-10 win at The Halliwell Jones Stadium as they bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Catalans.

Price says his players were “hurting” following the defeat in Perpignan and he says it showed in their performance this evening.

“I was very pleased with that performance. They have been the best team to date in the rounds we’ve played,” he said.

“They’ve been pretty consistent so it was pleasing to come away with the win.

“There were a lot of guys hurting from our performance last week, which shows the character and belief we have.

“People care about each other and the jersey and it showed in the performance.”

Ben Currie was a surprise inclusion in the Wire side as he played his first game in 11 months having recovered from a second serious knee injury in as many years.

Jake Mamo also came in for his first start and scored two tries, with Jack Hughes and Ben Murdoch-Masila grabbing further scores.

Price says Danny Walker pulled out of the game today through illness to allow Currie to step in.

“Ben has been doing everything right over the last couple of weeks,” he said.

“He’s been very close, but Danny Walker got ill today so we threw Chips in.

“I’m pleased he got through the game. It’s been a long wait for him coming off two ACLs.

“It’s a big relief and hopefully he can get back to the Ben Currie of years ago.

“If he keeps punching out basic fundamentals like that, that’s all we can ask for.

“I knew he’d done the work to get his body in that kind of shape. He looked good out there and was moving really quickly.

“I was pleased with Jake’s output. He came up with some good plays and scored some really good tries.

“He was always in and around the ball, which was positive.”

Price also confirmed Bryson Goodwin would go for a scan on the injury that ended his game early.

The Kiwi international was forced off in the first half after bending his knee backwards in a tackle, but Price says the injury is more towards his foot.
