THE chairman of Warrington Wolves Supporters' Trust has backed the club's decision to hand head coach Paul Cullen a two-year extension to his contract.

Roy Chicken, who is also involved in the running of Wolves' Squadbuilder scheme, expressed his pleasure that Cullen - still the only Warringtonian to captain and coach the club - will be staying beyond the end of this season, when his previous deal was due to expire.

"I'm one of those that agrees with the extension," he said. "I know some don't but I'm a supporter of Paul Cullen. He's done a good job in my view.

"People don't realise some of the problems he's had to deal with this year but hopefully they will kick on now and win some games.

"You could have had a money man who's only here for the money rather than someone who cares about the club.

"He was previously the commercial manager and was also involved with the Wolf Pack, so he's done a lot for the club.

"I think people forget that sometimes."

Fans have had their say on Cullen's new contract on the Warrington Guardian website and some of their comments are below:

TT, Bennetts Rec: Nice one Chachi! To all you so-called Wire fans, get behind the coach and the team through good times and bad. It takes more than one man's chequebook to galvanise a successful side.

Andy, Sankey: People have such short memories. Cull should have gone last year after the cup defeat then a terrible run of form. Winning a one-off game at Leeds saved him. Five years is long enough.

John, Sandbach: I think it is a clever move of the Wire. Paul Cullen has signed a two-year deal but only a two-year deal, meaning he has two seasons to get the team to the top and start winning stuff. If Simon Moran went in blind he would have signed him for longer. Think of it as an incentive for Paul Cullen to keep his job and win us silverware. I think the board are eager, like us, to win some trophies. Watch this space!
