HEADLINE congratulations are in order for Warrington Anglers' Association's women's teams who competed in the NFA National Championships on the Calder and Hebble Canal on Saturday.
Our Gold Team' won the event for the third time and team members Wendy Locker and Lynda Lythgoe took second and fourth overall individual places.
Our Blue Team' was fourth and Sarah Impey, competing in her first championship, took seventh place overall, while Janice Holland was ninth.
Adding more icing on the cake, our junior coach and local tackle dealer Helen Dagnall, fishing for Starlets AS, realised an ambition by taking the individual crown with a weight of 3.030kg.
Let us hope that both Helen's and our teams' successes encourage a few more women and girls to give angling a go.
Anyone who is interested can contact Lynda Lythgoe on the number below.
The River Dane has fished well this week with Ron Clayton reporting a mixed bag of five chub to 4lbs, five grayling, 10 dace and two roach. He used a maggot feeder and red maggot.
Double-figure catches of chub are being taken on both luncheon meat and halibut pellets. A few brown trout are also showing up in catches. Our bailiff informs me that the river has now dropped to its summer level.
Junior members Kieron Jones and Jason Morris report having a good session at High Legh Fisheries where they caught lots of small tench to 1lbs and small rudd.
Sport was hectic and fish were taken on both maggot and soft pellet. The usual resident carp are cruising close to the surface but frustrating all efforts to catch them.
Our working party volunteers were out in force again at our Buckley fishery on Saturday, erecting more fencing and clearing eight more swims.
Currently, sport is very slow there possibly due to the clear water conditions and abundance of both weed and natural food.
Darren Jones managed a few hours fishing on Monday and caught nine tench to 6lbs on pole-fished maggot.
Let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 01928 713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
HQ Parker Street will be open as usual on Friday between 7pm and 9.30pm for subscriptions and new memberships.
