WARRIORS of Warrington swimmers Tim Almond and Matthew Verdon won gold medals at the National Age Group Championships in Sheffield.
Almond was recently handed a place in Great Britain's training squad for the 2012 Olympics and remains the number one 14-year-old breaststroke swimmer in the country after winning the 200m breaststroke and taking the bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke.
Almond finished joint fifth in the overall rankings for the 14-year-old age group and appeared in five individual finals, while Verdon finished 11th in the same rankings after figuring in three finals.
Verdon was 0.17 seconds away from breaking his own British 100m backstroke record for 14-year-olds in the heats before clinching gold in the final to become the country's top 14-year-old backstroke swimmer.
Verdon also finished fourth in the 200m butterfly and sixth in the 200m backstroke, while Jordan Barlow took the silver medal in the 12-year-old 100m freestyle in his debut at the championships.
Barlow finished sixth in the 200m freestyle and fifth in the 100m butterfly with Martin Holmes 24th in the 13-year-old 200m butterfly and 13th in the 100m butterfly, while Daniel Wass was 13th in the 13-year-old 200m backstroke.
Almond, Verdon, Holmes and Barlow combined to clinch the bronze medal in the 4x100m individual medley event, while the same quartet finished 13th in the 4x100m freestyle.
Warriors finished 20th overall and coach Darren Ashley said: "I was very pleased with the boys' performances, especially to finish ranked so highly nationally."
