FORMER Wolves forward Jerome Guisset has thanked the town's supporters after their backing helped him achieve the highlight of his career at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday.

Guisset reached the Challenge Cup Final for the first time after his Catalans Dragons side upset the odds with an enthralling 37-24 semi-final victory against another of his old clubs, Wigan, in Warrington at the weekend.

The 10,218 Halliwell Jones crowd was dominated by Wigan supporters but did include around 1,000 Catalans fans and a good number of Warrington fans cheering on Guisset for the day.

The Frenchman, who made 137 appearances for Wolves between 2000 and 2004, said: "I can't stress enough how proud I was with the Warrington turn-up and the way they chanted for us and for me in particular.

"It shows that I must have done something pretty good here!

"I think it did help. It was a bit of a David against Goliath clash and there were a heap more Wigan fans.

"I'd say this is the best achievement of my career.

"When you are a kid playing football, even coming from France I was dreaming of one day walking on the pitch at Wembley like the Bobbie Gouldings and Jason Robinsons and the guys I used to watch when I was a young bloke.

"To actually achieve that is something massive, especially at the new Wembley."

Guisset regards The Halliwell Jones Stadium as a lucky ground for the Catalans after they also won their first Super League away game in Warrington last year.

They return to the town to face Wolves on Sunday, August 19, with the match kicking off at 7pm because of Sky's decision to screen the match live.
