WARRIORS of Warrington swimmer Tim Almond has been named in Great Britain's training squad for the 2012 Olympics.
Almond, who is coached by Darren Ashley, is currently the top ranked 14-year-old in the country in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and is in a 115-strong national squad earmarked for the London Olympics.
The squad, including boys and girls aged between 13 and 17, will undergo a development and nurturing process in the next five years and are expected to gather at least three times in the next 12 months.
The squad will be reviewed each year until 2012, leaving the door open for other Warriors prospects - including the highly-rated Matthew Verdon - to force their way in.
Rachel Callaghan, aged 14, and Damon Gamble, 12, won the respective top girl and boy awards at the Rotherham Metro Meet at the weekend.
Warriors, who sent a team of 80 swimmers and came home with 67 gold medals as well as 52 silvers and 39 bronzes, were named the top club.
Warriors swimmers were awarded 137 speeding tickets' during the meet, which was held in Sheffield, for achieving certain times during their races.
