RUGBY League fans will run a half marathon at the Golden Square shopping centre to raise funds for former Wolves player Ian Knott.

The 30-year-old was forced to retire two years ago with a serious back injury and now finds walking severely painful and can only do so with the aid of a stick.

His condition is likely to deteriorate further and he has been unable to work since retiring from rugby league.

Thirteen fans from the XIII Heroes rugby league charity will run a half marathon on treadmills at Golden Square on Friday and Saturday with Wolves media and PR officer Gina Coldrick also participating.

Tony Uzzell, Bradford Bulls fan and managing director of Sandbach-based company Synsol Ltd, has agreed to sponsor the event with a four-figure sum and Wolves are supporting the event by providing the chance for one lucky person to win a day as team mascot at the Catalans Dragons home match on August 19.

Several current Wolves players and Wolfie will be giving up their time to support Knott, joining the XIII Heroes team between noon and 2pm on Saturday.
