CONGRATULATIONS to Warrington Anglers' Association junior squad member Adam Jukes after he followed up his excellent sixth place in the National Federation of Anglers Championships with a win in the Fish'O'Mania on Saturday.

Adam put 17kg of carp on the scales to receive the £500 winner-takes-all prize.

There is an impressive stable of talent among our youngsters thanks to the dedicated volunteers who give up their time to help develop their angling skills.

Adam's success is a testimony to this dedication.

Steve Daley fished a flooded Cicily Mill Pool last week and had a red letter day with a catch of 15 crucian carp to 2lbs, 10 tench to 4lbs, 12 bream, a common carp of 4lbs and half a dozen roach and hybrids.

He fished a small waggler at six rods' distance for the bream and tench, and hard up against the marginal weed for the crucians.

He followed that up on Saturday with a trip to the Bridgewater Canal at Lymm to catch roach up to 8ozs, skimmer bream and perch but was pestered by pike snatching fish off the hook.

With an I'll be back' frame of mind, the following day saw him return to the same swim armed with the appropriate tackle.

It was not long before the culprit of the previous day - a beautifully marked pike of 14lbs - lay on his unhooking mat.

Getting carp reports is like drawing hen's teeth, although I know there have been a number of doubles caught.

Thanks to those few members who have responded to our quest to match their carp catch photographs from the large lake at Sandiway to the fish we have stocked to date.

One of the Simmonds fish was identified last Friday and it had put on 5lbs, although its colour was definitely changing.

Also the recently stocked mirror of 29-4-0 had lost more than 1lb.

We are starting a new file on carp that we cannot identify, so hopefully over time we can produce reliable overall stock and growth information.

We have taken delivery of 2,500 fingerling carp from the Horseshoe Lake strain as part of a joint growing on programme with our project partners Ineos Chlor.

The fish are in a secure reservoir and subject to a strict feeding regime thanks to the staff there who have taken on the task. They are a mixture of fully scaled mirrors, linears, leathers and commons.

Best of luck to our ladies' teams, who compete in the NFA National Championships on Saturday.
