TWO more Warrington rowers have been selected to represent their country in the coming weeks.
Warrington Rowing Club's Olivia Oakes last week discovered that she had again been selected to compete for Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in August.
And that has been followed by the news that clubmates Michael Pownall and Tom Pearson will represent Wales at the Home Countries International Regatta near the Irish city of Cork on July 29.
The duo will row in the junior men's quadruple sculls crew and will face opposition from England, Scotland and Ireland.
Pownall and Pearson, who are only both only 16 but will compete against rowers as old as 18 in Cork, will first join regular crew mates Chris Johnstone and James Whitehead at the National Championships of Great Britain in Nottingham this weekend, with 18 Warrington rowers competing at the event.
On the subject of the Wales call-ups for Pownall and Pearson, Warrington Rowing Club coach Richard Sinnott said: "It is a well-deserved reward for two hard-working athletes.
"They have a very bright future."
Both of the rowers attend Lymm High School, who have a partnership with Warrington Rowing Club.
The school's head of rowing, Mark Lavery, said: "Everyone connected with the club and the school is thrilled that two more of our juniors have been selected to row for a national squad.
"We all wish them the best of luck for their first taste of international competition."
