JIMMY Lowes is enjoying working with Paul Cullen after missing the opportunity to work alongside him for England last season.

Lowes joined Wolves as Cullen's new assistant coach last week and almost linked up with him last season, too.

Lowes said: "I missed another opportunity to work with Paul for England last year, so I'm looking forward to working with him.

"I'll hopefully learn a bit and we'll see what happens from there."

Cullen explained: "At the back end of last season when Karl Harrison wasn't going to continue as England coach, I got a very late call to join the England squad and did it after the Great Britain squad had been pulled together.

"I was brought in and asked to work with the second 20 of the 40 players announced by Great Britain.

"We were looking for conditioners and assistant coaches and James Lowes was one of the first ones on the list.

"Unfortunately he wasn't available to us and Stuart Wilkinson came in and did an exceptional job.

"Jimmy was in the frame for that but the lateness of it caught us unawares. But by that point we'd formed a relationship and the moment we became aware he may be available if we wanted him, we didn't hesitate.

"We've proven one thing - that we have the ability to make good decisions, act on them and deliver on them."

Simon Moran was in no doubt about bringing Lowes to The Halliwell Jones once he had heard of his availability and got the green light from Cullen.

"A couple of people left and he's got a lot of expertise," said Moran about Lowes. "Salford have not gone well this year but I think he added a lot when they did well last year."
