WARRINGTON Golf Club's Graham Cox narrowly missed out on qualification for the Open on Tuesday.
Cox was among more than 1,600 players to enter regional qualifying in a bid for just 12 places at the Open, which will take place at Carnoustie between July 19 and 22.
His round of 72 left him tied 17th at Prestbury and saw him progress to local final qualifying at Downfield in Scotland.
Rounds of 72 and 71 then put him on three under par - just five shots off qualification and tied 14th chasing the three spots available at that venue.
Lymm Golf Club's Anthony Millar finished tied 65th in local final qualifying in Monifieth after rounds of 72 and 77.
Millar had previously progressed through regional qualifying after finishing tied sixth at Trentham.
Winwick's Anthony Sproston, of High Legh Golf Club, qualified for the Open in 2003 via the same route but finished tied 85th in local final qualifying after winning his regional qualifying event at Trentham.
