WARRINGTON Athletics Club's Harriet Knowles-Jones has booked her ticket to the European Cross Country Championships in France next month.
Automatic selection for the Great Britain team in Hyeres on Sunday, December 13 was secured with her second-place finish in the weekend's trial, which doubled up with the second meeting of the British Athletics Cross Challenge Series.
Knowles-Jones, who had been beaten a couple of weeks earlier by Invicta East Kent's Bobby Clay by around 30 seconds, was much closer at Sefton Park, Liverpool, in race two of the under 20s series.
They were together throughout the race but in the finishing straight Clay proved to have the stronger finish as she pulled clear to win by four seconds in 14mins 42secs.
In the other races, Matt Wigelsworth ran well to finish 72 in the under 20s men’s race in 22mins 54secs, while in the under 17s men’s race Jack Stubbings and Sam Rostron also ran well to claim 36th and 83rd respectively with times of 18mins 49secs and 20mins 6secs.
