A FORMER Warrington Wolves second-row forward who was known as a “gentle giant”, died on November 19.
Ian Webster, from Penketh, made 13 appearances for the first team between 1968 and 1971 and many more for the ‘A’ team and for Warrington Colts.
Webby made his first-team debut in the second row in a Lancashire Cup tie at Salford in September 1968.
His final appearance came as a prop in a league match at Bradford in November 1971, at the start of Alex Murphy’s reign as player-coach, when he was sent off. His Warrington Wolves heritage number was 681.
Away from rugby league, he ran a plumbing business.
