TWO talented Warrington Rowing Club teenagers are waiting to find out if they will be part of a Great Britain training camp next month.
Lucy Glover and Ellie Davies travelled to Boston, Lincolnshire on Saturday to take part in the opening set of trials for 2016 British Junior Rowing Team.
The event took place over a 5km course on The River Witham. The conditions were atrocious with a biting wind and near horizontal rain but at this level bad weather does not stop play.
Both of the girls needed a strong performance to get an invite to the next set of trials in February where the numbers of athletes will be cut to about a third of the 120 girls that raced this time.
The top performers will also be invited to a training camp in Seville, Spain this December.
Glover is rapidly becoming a star of the GB junior scene, even though she is still at the younger end of the eligible athletes.
She started well and was second quickest to the half way mark but she struggled with the conditions in the second section and ended up a very creditable seventh in a strong time of 22:18.3, less than six seconds behind the winner.
Davies was trialling at this level for the first time and put in a strong performance to finish 33rd in a time of 22:59.8 some 47 seconds behind the winner, it is hoped that this will be enough to catch the eye of the GB Coaches and get that vital invite for February.
Both now face an anxious wait for her invite to Seville, for some pre-Christmas warm weather training.
