MEMBERS turned out at short notice to help with carp stocking at Grey Mist Mere, Moore Quarry, and Sandiway Lakes.
There were a few faces that I didn’t recognise, but I’m sure they went away impressed by the quality of the V S Fisheries’ specimens.
At Grey Mist we introduced four C6 fish averaging 20lbs+, 15 C4s averaging 8.7lbs and a few at 9 to 10lbs. All were mirrors.
Over at Moore Quarry members were pleased with six C6s averaging just under 21lbs, the best a 22lb common.
The consensus was to stock only three C4s, but the mistake was allowing the guys to choose the fish as we ended up with 10 stunning mirrors and a common!
It was like watching kids in a sweet shop, but brilliant to witness.
At Sandiway Lakes we released nine C6 fish averaging 19.5lbs, with the biggest at 21-10-0 entering the large water.
The small lake, where the fish are packing on weight, received 29 C4s that included two commons and one of the progeny of the famous Colnemere black mirror that reached more than 50lbs before its death.
We've ordered 20 more of these.
Tim Poultner has enjoyed two successful piking trips to the Bridgewater Canal.
During the latest on Friday, from the towpath edge, he ended with four on the mat – losing just as many – before calling it a day when he ran out of joey mackerel.
Jimmy Byrne won our Mersey match on Saturday for a third successive week, again targeting bream using maggot and groundbait feeder tactics.
He weighed in three bream to 6lbs, plus roach and perch for 14-4-0.
Stu Hardman ended a long wait to record a win on the Mersey, claiming first place in convincing fashion on Sunday with 38-10-0 made up of six bream to 4lbs along with a cracking catch of roach.
Groundbait feeder and maggot was his chosen method.
What a difference a day makes; with the River Mersey carrying flood water, it wasn’t kind to anglers contesting our disabled and over 60s match on Monday.
Derek Bibby won with 3-3-0, followed by Jimmy Byrne who weighed in 2-2-0.
