WARRINGTON Town switch focus to the FA Trophy on Saturday with a chance to chase ‘every schoolboy’s dream’, according to boss Shaun Reid.
His side host Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South outfit Basford United at Cantilever Park, kick off 3pm, with a spot in the third qualifying round up for grabs.
And, just over a year since Town’s giant-killing of League Two Exeter City in the FA Cup, Reid believes the Yellows could be on the verge of another historic cup run.
National League teams, the highest-ranked in the competition, enter at the first round, with a place at Wembley the prize for the finalists.
“It’s every schoolboy’s dream to play at Wembley and we have the chance to do it,” said Reid, whose side returned to the top of NPL Division One North with a 1-0 win over Bamber Bridge on Saturday.
“We weren’t going to go and win the FA Cup last year, but it’s achievable in this competition and that’s why we love the game.
“We have to earn the right and get a bit of luck along the way, then you never know where you will end up.”
Reid believes sides at Town’s level, step four, have proved they can mix it with higher-ranked clubs, citing the Yellows last year and Salford City this season as examples.
“We’ve played a lot of clubs from higher levels over the past few seasons and beaten them – North Ferriby, Colwyn Bay, Exeter City – so we’ve nothing to fear,” added the 50-year-old, who travelled to Nottingham to watch Saturday's opponents Basford on Wednesday night.
“The higher level sides are the ones with it all to lose.
“Johnno (manager) at Salford tweeted that he was following our lead. We have given people a belief after last year that teams doing well in our league can go on to the next level and achieve.
“The FA Cup run will never be forgotten, but that’s history now and I’m about making history so it’s what happens from now on.
“The FA Trophy is what we are focusing on for the next 48 hours.”

Top scorer Ciaran Kilheeney was on target for his 12th of the season in the home win against Brig, a side Town drew 2-2 with on the opening day of the season.
Scott Metcalfe whipped in a curling free-kick from the right hand side, and it was glanced home by the Warrington skipper early in the second half to seal the points.
"They beat us in the play-offs at our place two years ago.," added Reid. "They’re a very strong side and I expect them to be in the play-offs again, so it was a great win.
"1-0 is always a great result for a manager because it shows we are good defensively and clinical going the other way.
"It was an excellent team performance and as a manger you’re looking for that consistency."
However the boss expects to add to his squad ahead of a notoriously busy festive period.
"We are a settled squad, but we might make a couple of additions to get us through the difficult Christmas period," said the ex-Rochdale midfielder, who was present as title rivals and next week's opponents Glossop lost at Marine on Tuesday.
"A couple of bodies will help us through."
The Yellows' Integro Doodson League Cup clash at Ramsbottom United, postponed this week due to a waterlogged pitch, will now take place next Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
