WOLVES' under 18s got off to a good start to the Junior Academpy Championship season with a comprehensive 50-18 victory at Harlequins on Saturday.

Marc Shackley scored their first try in London after having an even earlier effort ruled out due to a forward pass.

Shackley then touched down again after some excellent handling had moved the ball from one side of the pitch to the other before Quins scored their only points of the first half.

A high kick was fumbled by the Wolves defence in the very windy conditions, allowing Jamie O'Callaghan to pick up the loose ball and score in the corner.

Warrington continued to dominate all aspects of the game with excellent first-team squad player Mike Cooper breaking the line with every carry.

Another three tries from Lee Mitchell, Joe Gandy and Chris Murphy gave Wolves a deserved 24-4 lead going in at half time after two conversions by Alex Thompson.

The second half started poorly for the Wolves, who conceding two early tries with some complacent defending.

But the young Wolves players soon got back into the groove with a try from Murphy and another from Alex Hurst, which was converted by Thompson to restore the 20-point lead.

Further tries from Hurst and Mark Thomas, as well as a conversion by Chris Dean looked to complete the scoring at 44-14.

But Murphy scored again to complete his hat-trick with minutes to go and Dean landed a superb conversion to bring up the half century for Wolves before a late Quins consolation try.
