WARRINGTON boxer Courtney Chadwick won a silver medal in the National Golden Gloves Championships at the weekend.

Chadwick, appearing in his second national final in three years, lost to Londoner Christian Mbwakongo in the 44kg class in Knottingley.

Fellow Phoenix boxers Nick Snelson, class one 60kg, and Eric Wharton, class two 63kg, won national bronze medals after going out in the semi finals.

Phoenix head coach Damian Ridpath said: "I am absolutely delighted with all three lads.

"They have been superb throughout the competition and with a bit more luck the club could have had three national champions.

"The boxers are aged between 12 and 14, they have a huge future in the sport and are all now ranked in the top two in the country for their age and weight."
