PAUL Darbyshire believes Wolves must show the right mental attitude if they are to reach their first Challenge Cup Final since he played at Wembley in 1990.

Wolves, again without the injured Lee Briers, face Hull Kingston Rovers in the fourth round of the cup at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday at 2.30pm, less than 10 months since Rovers knocked them out of last year's competition in embarrassing fashion.

Darbyshire played when Warrington were beaten 36-14 by Wigan in their last final appearance 17 years ago and the Wolves assistant coach has stressed the importance of getting it right mentally this year after admitting that some players took Justin Morgan's Robins lightly last season.

KR were in National League One when they won last year's quarter-final clash but they have since been promoted and become the first top-flight side to visit Wolves' new stadium for a cup match in the only all-Super League tie of the round.

"It's all about mental attitude," said Darbyshire about this year's cup challenge.

"The guys across Super League are physically prepared to a very similar standard and it's just how you apply yourselves mentally week in, week out to get that consistency and get results.

"Last year was very disappointing. We got to the quarter-final stage and then didn't come up with the goods.

"Maybe we were a bit complacent against Hull KR and some of the players maybe did take them lightly, but they proved if you do that they're going to turn you over."

Wolves will be without Briers for a third successive game on Saturday, with the skipper not likely to return from a hamstring problem until the home game against Leeds on April 15 after running on Tuesday for the first time since suffering the injury.

Paul Johnson has been ruled out for six weeks after breaking an index finger during Wolves' 30-24 defeat at Wakefield on Sunday, so Richie Barnett should start on the left wing with Brent Grose moving to centre.

Chris Bridge will make his 50th Wolves appearance despite suffering a blow to his eye at Wakefield, while Vinnie Anderson has also recovered from a slight knee injury.

Steve Pickersgill, who is fit again after a twisted ankle, Andy Bracek and Ben Harrison will compete for the final bench spot.

Wolves are aiming for a place in the first Challenge Cup Final to be held at the new Wembley and Darbyshire knows how special an occasion that could be.

Paul Cullen was suspended for the 1990 final at the old stadium but Darbyshire did figure at left centre.

He said: "To get to the Challenge Cup Final I don't think it matters what the venue is.

"But playing the first final at Wembley would just make it extra special and a great experience for everyone concerned with the club. It's a massive ambition for us.

"I played there in 1990 and it was a fantastic experience. I just remember walking down the tunnel and the noise was absolutely unbelievable. "

A ban on taking bottles, flasks or cans into The Halliwell Jones Stadium will come into effect on Saturday.

The draw for the fifth round will take place on Tuesday at 6.30pm.
