PAUL Rauhihi is still open to contract offers for 2008 despite admitting there is a chance he could call time on his career at the end of the season.

Rauhihi, who is in his second year with Wolves after signing from North Queensland Cowboys, suffered a serious back injury midway through last year and still has to do extra training to strengthen the muscles.

The 33-year-old prop has not been troubled by the injury so far this year but a recurrence could tempt him to call it a day when his Wolves contract expires at the end of the season.

"I'm just waiting to see how things go with my back and everything," said Rauhihi.

"But it's all right at the moment, I haven't had too many problems. I've been training well and playing without any problems."

Rauhihi was restricted to just 13 appearances during his first season with Wolves because of a hamstring injury and then the back problem but has appeared in every game so far this year.

He will again captain the side in the absence of Lee Briers against Hull KR this weekend and, if he continues to play on without experiencing back problems, Rauhihi says he would consider an offer to extend his Wolves deal if it came his way.

"Yes, for sure I would consider it," said the New Zealand international, one of three overseas quota players out of contract this year.

"I've not really made plans for next year yet, I'll just see how things go."

Injuries prevented Rauhihi making his Challenge Cup debut last year but he should get that chance on Saturday.

Although he played in the 30-12 league win against Rovers two weeks ago, he had to watch on last year when KR, then a National League One side, shocked Wolves in the quarter finals.

All associated with the club still rue 2006 as a missed opportunity to make it to the final and Rauhihi is keen that they do not leave themselves with similar regrets.

He said: "Of course there were regrets last year, losing to a team that was not in Super League.

"It is always harder when you go out to one of those sides but they showed that they deserved to be a Super League team.

"Every game you play you're thinking that you don't want to come out with any regrets.

"Sometimes things can conspire against you, whether it's injuries during a game or bad mistakes, but everyone will be trying their best."
