Lymm High School 20 St Pauls School, Barnes 15.

LYMM High School captain Andy Davies emulated his father by winning a Daily Mail Schools title at Twickenham today.

Last year Davies' father Len coached Lymm to the Daily Mail Under 18s Vase title.

Today Andy captained them to victory in the Daily Mail Under 15s Schools Cup final against a spirited St Pauls School, Barnes.

It was also a Twickenham double for Lymm's coach Simon Baker.

Last year he was in the Stockport side who won the Powergen Intermediate Cup at the home of English rugby.

"With the ball in hand we knew St Paul's could really hurt us and they scored two great tries," Baker said.

"Perhaps we were not quite as cute as we could have been but it turned out to be real cup final-style of game where a lot of parts of the two sides cancelled each other out.

"But I think that we showed a lot of character by coming back to score in the first half shortly after they had scored.

"A lot of the boys are still 14 and they showed a great deal of maturity."

Lymm showed their resilience by twice responding to tries from St Pauls full back Jonathan Walker by scoring tries themselves.

The kicking of centre Luke Emmitt also proved decisive as he converted both tries and kicked two penalties. All three St Pauls tries went unconverted.

St Pauls had to withstand early pressure from Lymm's forwards but they eventually conceded a penalty which gave Emitt the chance to open the scoring with a 14th-minute penalty.

St Pauls responded with a period of sustained pressure which ended in a lovely flowing attack and well-taken try from Walker.

Fly half Nico Willson was unfortunate to strike a post with his touchline conversion.

Lymm's response was swift and effective as right wing Mark Jennings strode over in the corner and Emmitt, the younger brother of England Under 16s rugby league player Jake, slotted the conversion.

St Pauls needed some inspiration to get them back into the game and it came when another confident handling move was expertly finished off by Walker for his second try of the game.

That score reduced Lymm's lead to just three points but the Cheshire side again regrouped and responded with another quick score.

This time it was loose-head prop Jordan Widdrington who muscled over and Emmitt had no difficulty in adding the extras to leave St Pauls 10 points adrift.

But it was to St Pauls' credit that they set up a grandstand finale by scoring again two minutes from the end of proper time.

Number eight Rupert Cowan had the strength to get over the line.

Despite further pressure in injury time, St Pauls could not engineer another score and it was Lymm who returned from Twickenham with more silverware.

"I thought Lymm played more clever rugby than we did in our own half," said St Pauls coach Richard Girvan.

"I thought their scrum half, Andy Davies, ran the game but any time we had the ball in good positions we looked dangerous.

"Jon Walker did really well and Rupert Cowan had an outstanding game.

"I am proud of the way we played. We didn't die wondering, we tried everything we knew to get into the game."
