WOLVES go into Sunday's match at Wakefield determined not to let injuries derail their Super League hopes for the second season in a row.

Their two biggest stars - Lee Briers and Adrian Morley - will both be absent for the televised match at Belle Vue, which kicks off at 6.05pm, although Chris Bridge should return after a groin injury.

Wolves, who have already seen 11 members of their squad miss game time this season because of injury or illness, clinched a 30-12 home win against Hull KR on Sunday without half backs Bridge and Briers.

The latter will miss a second game this weekend with a hamstring problem but Wolves have not yet ruled the skipper out of the Challenge Cup clash with Hull KR on March 31, despite Briers saying on his Testimonial website on Tuesday that he expected to be out for 'around another three weeks'.

But they will definitely be without Morley for the next six weeks with a fractured cheekbone and Cullen has bemoaned the club's fortunes on the medical front this season.

But, having seen his side suffer because of injury woes last year, he believes fifth-placed Wolves are better equipped to deal with similar problems in Super League XII, which has already delivered four wins from six matches despite the hurdles they have had to overcome.

"Last year's injury crisis has hardened us," Cullen said.

"The injuries this year have been quite freakish and have come from nowhere.

"If it wasn't for bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all at this moment in time.

"But that does only one thing, it just hardens our resolve and creates a siege mentality in our group.

"We have recruited players with versatility because at some point it's going to go wrong and you're going to be tested.

"We have lost key players at key points in games and still gone on to win those games.

"Going into a game as pressurised as Hull Kingston Rovers without Bridge and Briers could have adversely affected our preparations or the mental toughness of any number of our individuals, but that wasn't the case."

Cullen is still deciding whether to start Bridge or use him from the bench at Wakefield, who are second in the table after a surprising run of four wins from their last five games.

A bench spot for Bridge would allow Vinnie Anderson to remain at stand off with winger Henry Fa'afili a possible option in the second row after a good performance in that position after Morley went off against Hull KR.

If Bridge starts, Anderson will revert to loose forward but Jon Clarke, who received praise from Cullen along with Mark Gleeson and Brent Grose after the Hull KR game, is again expected to be in charge of directing affairs on the field from scrum half.

Bridge is likely to take over goal-kicking duties after Michael Sullivan, Clarke and Ben Westwood landed goals on Sunday.

Hard-working forward Westwood was an unlikely kicker but thrilled the crowd with his attempts after feeling confident enough to have a go in the absence of Bridge and Briers.

"I've always said I should have a licence to kick and Paul Cullen laughs at me!" he joked after kicking the first goal of his career and then hitting the post from the touchline.

"After training we mess about and I have a little kick from the touchline. More times than not it goes over so I thought, Let's have a go'.

"The one in front of the sticks was scarier than the one out wide because I thought, If I miss this I'm going to be a joke'. I think it only just went over.

"Chris Bridge will probably kick this week but I'll have one or two in training and show them how to do it!"

Wolves' 20-man squad: Stuart Reardon, Henry Fa'afili, Martin Gleeson, Paul Johnson, Brent Grose, Vinnie Anderson, Jon Clarke, Chris Leikvoll, Michael Sullivan, Paul Rauhihi, Ben Westwood, Mike Wainwright, Rob Parker, Paul Wood, Mark Gleeson, Richie Barnett, Chris Bridge, Ben Harrison, Andy Bracek, Steve Pickersgill.
