PAUL Cullen will take on 'The Wakefield Three' when Wolves travel to Belle Vue on Sunday - including in-form stand off Jamie Rooney.

Rooney, Brett Ferres and Ryan Atkins all performed well for Cullen during his spell in charge of England at the end of last season and he is wary of the threat they will pose to Wolves.

Rooney has been tipped for a Great Britain call-up after winning February's Super League player of the month award and making a big contribution to Wakefield's good start to the season.

Cullen said: "I rate Jamie very highly. He's actually tougher than I'd previously given him credit for.

"He aims up in a game defensively and wants the ball.

"I think in our first three games for England he called it the celebration of 'The Wakefield Three'.

"Brett Ferres, Jamie Rooney and Ryan Atkins were the man of the match in each of the first three games and played exceptionally well to help England win a very tough final at Widnes against Tonga.

"The Wakefield players were well prepared, very determined and made massive contributions."

And Cullen knows Wolves will face a tough game against Trinity, who have won four of their first six games this year under the guidance of coach John Kear, and has pinpointed Rooney, Ben Jeffres and hooker Tevita Leo-Latu as men to watch.

"We have absolute respect for Wakefield as a team and also for John Kear," he said.

"We've gone through their previous two or three games at length and they're a talented side.

"The pace of Jamie Rooney and Ben Jeffries is something that needs to be watched and Latu, the hooker off the bench, is exceptionally quick and can cause problems.

"They change their tactics to accommodate his game. When he comes on, they go at the ruck and cause you problems if you allow them to do so."
