WARRINGTON RUFC gained revenge for a one-point defeat on the first day of the season with victory against Crewe and Nantwich in South Lancashire/Cheshire Two.

Warrington took the lead with an early try from skipper Neil Sullivan and, although Crewe responded with a penalty, the hosts increased their advantage when Jon Farrell put James Shaw over.

Crewe again hit back with a penalty and a try to reduce Warrington's lead to one point at half time but a Duncan Rickard penalty and a converted try from Gez Loudon restored some breathing space.

Further tries then came from Tom Darbyshire and Farrell, who benefited from a devastating run from Steve Mahoney.

Warrington 2nd 35 Vale of Lune 3rd 11.

WARRINGTON'S second team were too good for Vale of Lune's thirds in Miller Homes League Division Two.

Tries from Jeff Millington and Chris Douglas, who converted both efforts, made it 14-6 at half time.

Lea Graham and Jayesh Kerai crossed the whitewash after the interval and, although Vale of Lune ran in a try of their own, Richard Turner completed the scoring for Warrington.

WARRINGTON'S thirds completed a set of three home wins for the club as they confirmed promotion to Miller Homes League Division Four South.

Warrington overcame their Division Five South championship rivals but still need to win their final two games to claim top spot.

Ian Nicholson's penalty put them ahead and Rhiann Mullen rounded off a superb move to extend Warrington's advantage before a late Altrincham penalty.
