THE tench switched on in an unseasonal feeding frenzy for members of Warrington Anglers' Association at Rixton Claypits at the weekend.

That resulted in anglers catching tench in the 4lbs to 6lbs range.

A new member from Buckley made his debut on a Warrington AA water with a catch of 16 fish - eight tench and eight bream for almost 80lbs. Boilie was the hot bait.

In contrast, the Disabled and Over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal suffered drastically from the sudden drop in temperature.

Barry Owen needed only 3lbs 2ozs 0drms to take the money, followed by Trevor Bainbridge with 2-9-0. Small roach and perch made up the majority of nets.

Mersey regular Paul Healey won the last cast match' on Wednesday with an impressive 8-3-5 made up mainly of two decent bream. Paul Harding was runner up with 4-12-3 of roach.

Both of those keen river anglers will now have to wait 90 days until they are open again on June 16.

Ian McGilvey reports a hectic session with roach, rudd, and small tench on our High Legh fisheries.

Ian pole-fished pinkie at 11 metres and also included in his catch a common carp of about 8lbs, which took some skill and patience to bring to the net on a 1lbs BS hook length and size four elastic.

The mud at Ackers Pit is drying out slowly despite the recent rain and according to the contractors the project is on target for a June opening.

However, it may be towards year end before we can introduce new fish stocks.

There is a working party this Saturday and Sunday at the Mount Fishery, Buckley. If you haven't yet visited this new fishery now is your chance to see it up close by volunteering your services.

You might even enjoy it!

If you have not yet received your 2007 Warrington Anglers' Association membership booklet then there is something definitely amiss.

Please let us know as soon as possible so that we can sort it out.

Let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 01928 713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
