PAUL Cullen has explained the reasons why he does not intend to use Michael Sullivan as a half back on Sunday - even if all three of Wolves' recognised halves are injured.

Lee Briers (groin) and Chris Bridge (hamstring) are extremely doubtful and Simon Grix (shoulder) is a long-term absentee so Cullen plans to use Jon Clarke and Vinnie Anderson in the halves.

Sullivan had been the fourth man in line earlier in the season, starting at stand off while Bridge was out with a hamstring tear.

Cullen last week thanked the Australian, who prefers to play at hooker, for playing out of position in the early part of the season and intends to use him in his favoured role against Hull KR.

"I think Michael Sullivan deserves the opportunity to play in his most comfortable and competent position, which is moving from the ruck," he said.

"What Michael tends to do when he's out wide is overplay. There's almost a compensation factor in there.

"If you've lost Bridge and Briers, to ask Michael to dominate the game at half back is a burden he doesn't need.

"As a group we need to relieve that from him and let him play his natural and best game.

"Michael has been very dynamic going forward at the ruck and we think that is the best place to use him and use Jon Clarke and Vinnie Anderson a little bit wider."
