JON Clarke has admitted that Wolves have a few scores to settle when they face their Challenge Cup conquerors on Sunday.

Clarke, who is expected to play as a half back this weekend to cover for injuries to Lee Briers and Chris Bridge, believes Wolves can use last June's shock defeat to Hull Kingston Rovers as a motivating factor when they face the newly promoted side at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The Robins - then a National League One side - embarrassed Wolves with a 40-36 quarter-final win at Craven Park last season and have made a fantastic start to the campaign with four wins from five games.

And Clarke, who played at Craven Park last year, has assured fans that there is no chance whatsoever' that Hull KR will be taken lightly this time despite still being one of Super League's less glamorous names.

"We don't see it as revenge or a grudge match but there's a bit of extra spice to the game and a few little scores to settle," said the 27-year-old, who normally plays as a hooker or loose forward.

"I know we didn't have a good record against some of the lower sides last year but there's no chance whatsoever of us taking it lightly.

"You do that at your own peril because everyone is beating everyone in Super League this year, with Wakefield and Hull KR making a good start.

"We'll prepare as if it is St Helens and in every game this year we're looking to prepare as well as we can."

When Wolves suffered a 42-10 defeat at Salford on Good Friday two years ago, they bounced back with a 48-14 home win against the same side three months later.

And Clarke, who made his 200th Super League appearance against St Helens on Friday, hopes something similar can happen this time.

"Salford walloped us and then we did the same to them," he said.

"It would be great to do the same with Hull KR but they are a solid team and James Webster is a player we will need to watch.

"The game against them last year was surreal.

"I remember coming off the field at the end thinking did that actually happen?'.

"We didn't go there to lose, we went to win, so it was a shock.

"But we didn't play very well that day. Hull KR played well and ground a win out.

"It affected us for quite a while afterwards and destroyed the confidence of a few players.

"It's not a game I've put in my memory bank."
