THIS week I can open with some good news for Lymm Angling Club members.

We have secured the fishing rights to Crabmill Flash - a water renowned for its specimen fish.

Crabmill Flash is eight acres in size and has a good head of specimen catfish, tench, carp and bream.

The water is beautifully set in the Cheshire countryside, close to Sandbach and Middlewich.

Its catfish go to around 60lbs with tench to nearly doubles, massive carp and bream to 15lbs.

Its carp population did suffer badly from the carp disease outbreak in 2004 and 2005 but we have received information from the Environment Agency declaring that there remains a good number of carp in the water.

It is also likely that they will be immune from any future outbreaks.

As part of the package, included is approximately 400 yards of the River Wheelock, an as yet unknown stretch of water that has apparently not been fished for many years.

At the moment the committee is busy formulating a method of operating the site and, until this has been done, the site will remain closed.

Last week cub official John Prescott took a last chance to fish Wincham Brook before the coarse closed season.

He was successful in his quest to catch and photograph a grayling, one of the very few species he had not already caught.

John's photographic portfolio of club waters is a magnificent piece of work and a credit to him.

Without doubt it impressed the owners of Crabmill Flash and most likely was a contributory element in the club gaining that water.

Whitley Pool is being very moody at the moment, as discovered by committee member Eddie Rothwell.

Having endured an hour or two on there without a bite, Eddie knew to stick it out and proceeded to land a string of chubby carp as darkness fell.

Another site specialist, Alan Pinnington, did exactly the same and salvaged his session in the last of the light.

It is with sadness that I report the death of Warrington angling giant Phil Larkin.

Phil worked tirelessly for many years for his beloved sport. He was a great ambassador for angling and I will miss him, his advice and solid stance.

I can be contacted on 411774 but be prepared to leave a message.
