Warrington Wolves u21 30 St Helens u21 28.

KEVIN Penny scored two tries as Wolves' under 21s recorded an impressive win against St Helens at Wilderspool on Saturday.

The first team were again unable to beat Saints on Friday night but the under 21s were more successful.

They were able to select Andy Bracek and Ben Harrison, who returned from their loan at Widnes because Vikings were in Challenge Cup action and Wolves did not want them cup-tied.

Also appearing for Wolves were Steve Pickersgill and Michael Cooper, who overcome a troublesome shoulder injury to play.

Wolve took the lead when Tyrone McCarthy's offload put Chris Murphy over after five minutes but Saints hit back with tries from Ian Hardman and Paul Leyland.

Penny scored his first try from Matty Blythe's interception, with Steven Roper converting, but Saints led 22-10 at half time thanks to further tries from Sean Weed and Kyle Eastmond.

Blythe halved the deficit with an early second-half try but Paul Clough's try seemed to have put the game out of Wolves' reach.

They were then reduced to 12 men but Chris Riley danced his way over before another Blythe interception led to Penny's second try of the game and his trademark somersault celebration.

Roper converted to bring the scores level and substitute Martyn Ridyard kicked the winning penalty before some solid Wolves defensive work.
