VINNIE Anderson is determined to produce a big performance against his former club St Helens tomorrow night, Friday, and reckons the game will allow Wolves to gauge their Super League credentials.

Wolves have not beaten St Helens since 2001 but, having been on Saints' side of the fence during the past two seasons, Anderson knows how close they have come to a result in recent times.

Victory against the world club champions would send out the message that Wolves are serious contenders for honours this year and a result would be extra special for Anderson.

"It's always good to play against friends and people you know, and playing against an ex-club is always a big thing," said the Kiwi.

"I get along well with all the players there and I certainly wouldn't want any of them to get over the top of me tomorrow.

"They're the Super League champs and the world champs so what better way to see where we're at than to play against St Helens?

"If you want to be the best then you've got to play the best. St Helens are definitely the best in the Super League, so it will be a great game for us."

Anderson left Saints after falling out of favour in the latter stages of his time there but does not feel he has a point to prove tomorrow.

And, while Wolves are likely to again raise their game, he knows from experience that Saints will not take the game likely.

"Playing for St Helens, we always knew it was going to be tough playing against Warrington," said Anderson.

"I think I played them four times and we beat them twice by one point and the last time Warrington were up 16-0. We always struggled against Warrington.

"Warrington always give St Helens a good run for their money and hopefully we'll be able to beat them tomorrow."

Anderson has proved a useful and versatile addition to Wolves' squad but was not entirely happy with his own performance at Harlequins, having been plagued by a groin injury since an impressive debut at Wigan.

"There's always a lot of room for improvement," he said about his season so far.

"I was disappointed with my first-half performance at Harlequins but you get games like that. You just have to back yourself to play well the next week.

"Wigan was a good game but I missed the game after that with an injury. I don't think I've been quite back to where I want to be but hopefully I'll be back to 100 per cent against St Helens."
