LEE Briers was nicknamed "The Axe" by members of Warrington Wolves' coaching staff after Sunday's win against Hull.
Wolves' scrum half and skipper does not receive plaudits for his defensive work often enough but one of his tackles on Hull replacement hooker Wayne Godwin was a big talking point afterwards.
"The Axe" almost chopped the former Wigan man in two with an explosive shoulder hit in the 62nd minute and then showed his sportsmanlike conduct.
Realising Godwin was hurt, Briers quickly turned him into the recovery position and signalled for medical help from the Hull dug out.
Briers had a busy game, scoring a try, four goals and the match-winning drop goal in the 77th minute.
