BRENT Grose "toughed it out" for the primrose and blue cause when he competed for 80 minutes against Bradford Bulls on Sunday in his first proper hit-out since August 2006.

And for that, the Aussie utility back who prefers to play centre or full back has received praise from head coach Paul Cullen.

"He replaced Martin Gleeson in the centres but hadn't played for six months.

"It was mid-August when he injured his knee against Harlequins and only played for five minutes as a substitute in the play-off defeat at Bradford.

"He only found out at 10am on Sunday that he would be playing and I think he coped well.

"Brent wasn't 100 per cent fit after his ankle ligament tear in Lanzarote but it is testimony to his character that he did it tough for the team for 80 minutes.

"The positive is that he now has 80 minutes of rugby under his belt, he is fitter this week than last week and the ankle is better than last week.

"This week, with Martin Gleeson returning to right centre, Grosey will do what he always does - play for the team and aim up at left wing in place of Richie Barnett."

Barnett tore an ankle ligament playing against Bradford and is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks.
