BENNY Westwood scored the 50th try of his Super League career on Sunday but he was in no mood to celebrate after defeat in the home opener against Bradford Bulls.

"It would have been a lot better if we had won," said the back row forward.

Westwood's first try of the season off Lee Briers' pinpoint pass was his 42nd Super League effort for Warrington in a little more than four full seasons, while he scored eight in three seasons with his previous club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

He went on to score a second try from a Briers kick against Bradford, leaving him needing one more try for a cup and league total of 50 with Warrington.

Westwood has a race on his hands with Henry Fa'afili to reach a half century with Warrington - Fa'afili has been sat on 49 since the play-off defeat at Bradford last September.

However, converted centre Westwood is more renowned for his rugged and uncompromising play as a forward than for his try scoring and his only aim at the moment is to help the team to return to winning ways against Hull FC at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday.

He admitted the defeat to Bradford had put a bit of a dampner on the previous week's win at Wigan and added: "Our defence let us down at some points against Bradford.

"I think we made too many errors, gave away too many penalties and I think we missed a few guys on the sidelines, but that's no excuse.

"There's no dramas, though, and there's no need to worry. It's only the second game of the season and we'll do our best to put it right against Hull."
