TWO worthy charities which provide support for the homeless and hungry have been boosted thanks to the generosity of Warrington workers.

Staff working at the Amazon warehouse in Great Saney chose The Whitechapel Centre and The Big Help Project to benefit from a donation of £15,000.

The funding comes as part of a special Covid-19 support initiative run by Amazon to support the communities around its UK operating locations.

The Whitechapel Centre, which received £10,000, works with individuals who are sleeping rough, living in hostels or struggling to manage their accommodation.

The charity helps those in need find and maintain a home and learn the life skills essential for independent living.

Meanwhile, The Big Help Project was given £5,000 to continue its support of the most vulnerable in the community, aiming to feed the hungry, overcome poverty and help people access affordable housing.

Both charities plan to use the donations to replenish stock and provide essential items to those in need, including food, toiletries and basic clothing.

Tony Carr, site leader at Amazon Warrington, said: “We are proud to support organisations that are making a real difference in our community, like The Whitechapel Centre and The Big Help Project.

“Staff and volunteers at the charities have been a great support to people during Covid-19, and we want to lend a helping hand with this donation.”

The Whitechapel Centre was nominated by Antonio Hall, who commented: “The Whitechapel Centre is a charity close to my heart, and I am pleased that it has been chosen to receive this donation from Amazon.

“I hope that it gives the staff and volunteers a boost during what continues to be a challenging year.”

David Roper, volunteer manager at The Whitechapel Centre, added: “Like all charities, our services have never been needed more than they are now.

“Amazon’s support is hugely appreciated and will enable us to continue to reach and help people in our community by providing food and clothing parcels.

“Thank you to Tony and the team in Warrington for this donation.”
