council officers have sent out a warning that a potentially lethal, fake vodka could be in circulation in Warrington.
Warrington Borough Council's Trading Standards has discovered a product labelled as Kremlin Vodka, which contains levels of methanol 16 times higher than the recommended maximum.
Tommy Wallace, the council's head of service, housing, protection and community, said: "If anyone has bought this vodka, they must not drink it."
The drink has been found across Lancashire and Merseyside.
In the past four years, two people have died in the UK after drinking a similar methanol-laced vodka, while in Estonia in 2001, there were 58 fatalities from a similar product.
Anyone who has information about the supply of the vodka should contact Trading Standards on 442678.
