COMMUNITY group Friends of Bruche Park is celebrating after securing funding to continue sprucing up the area. The volunteers have been working on the ‘environment, safety and aesthetics’ of the grassy area to encourage more people to enjoy the park. David Wilson Homes North West’s Our Space, Your Place scheme has given the charity £475 as well as two members of staff joining volunteers to get their hands dirty. Paul Blair, from the group, said: “The donation will not only help us to improve the park’s physical attributes, but it will also offer the residents a safe and welcoming place as well as improve local environmental education and green projects.” The majority of the cash will be used to thin the overgrown woodlands to make the area safer and help the environmental education programme with local schools. Graham Swann, David Wilson managing director, said: “We are always keen to support projects which work to improve the local environments and offer a genuine benefit for local residents.” The Our Space, Your Place initiative offers groups across the north west cash from £100 to £1,000, with the only condition being the funding is used for something that will enhance or improve a service, facilities or the environment within.
