A Padgate Brownies group has finally found a new base after its old home was sold to make way for a development of flats.
The 36th St John’s Brownies had used St John’s Church on Grosvenor Avenue for 60 years until earlier this year.
The sale meant the group for seven-year-old girls was under threat.
In May the youngsters moved into a smaller venue at Elmwood Avenue United Reformed Church but it meant that fewer girls could attend due to the lack of space.
Numbers dropped from 23 to 16 and leader Gaynor Connor was forced to turn youngsters away who were on the waiting list.
A frantic search began with possible venues at Cinnamon Brow Farm Club and Bennett’s Rec found to be unsuitable.
But Mrs Connor has just managed to secure a new home at Warrington West District Scout headquarters in Orford from September.
The move looked in doubt because of a possible clash with other users of the centre but after a request to the Scout Committee, an agreement was reached.
Mrs Connor said: “I would like to thank all those who kindly offered rooms for us and a big thank you to Elmwood Avenue United Reformed Church for stepping in with help when we were almost homeless.
“St John’s Brownies are now looking forward to moving into our new home when we start back this month.”
Meetings will now be held at the Scout base on Vale Owen Road from Wednesday between 6.30pm and 7.45pm.
