BIFFA Waste Services has been ordered to remove and dismantle machinery from its Risley tip eight weeks before the planned restoration of the site will be complete.
The plans were approved during last week’s development control meeting to ensure the ‘satisfactory completion of the restoration’ of the landfill site before October 2012.
Jim Carr, chairman of the residents’ group, said he was very pleased with progress on the site and that deadlines were being enforced surrounding the closure of the Silver Lane tip.
Clr Jeff Richards said: “It’s right to put time constraints on the site when it has already been used for a number of years.
“As Mr Carr has already said, this is a good thing.”
The tip will stop being used in October 2011.
Restoration will be completed over the following 12 months including removing any contaminated soil.
